There’s a great article on CNN talking about the next evolution of haptic touchscreen, which involves sending electrical charges to your finger tips. Essentially this would allow for users to get visual cues based on touch when interacting with screens (e.g. large videos behind an icon would seem “heavy”, etc). It’s still in development, but it seems like from the article it may be cheap enough to start integrating into mobile devices, such as phones and tablets in the near future. There’s a demo video on the TeslaTouch Website.

If you hadn’t already guessed, I’m a big lifehacker fan these days. I just a caught a short article on encoding settings for video and devices. I’m not sure if these are “magic settings” for encoding or not, having not tried them, but they do appear to be convincing. The post also points to Zencoder, which appears to be one of those “online encoder” services that have sprung up in the past few years. I’ve seen a couple hobbyist sites over the past couple years, but this one may have some backing (aka funding). ZenCoder, describes itself as : “Web-based encoding software as a service, designed to quickly convert any video into web and mobile compatible formats.”. Looks like they have an API, which might come in handy on a future project, perhaps. |
