Flex Beta

Sunday, March 28th, 2004

It’s about time Macromedia finally released their anticipiated RIA development tool, first code named “Royale” , now most recently known as “Flex”.

From Flash 6 to present … when building ria apps entirely in Flash (even MX 2004) represented too many unneeded headaches. If you think otherwise, try building an entire e-commerce site like the acclaimed petstore, or something even more custom. Talk about challenging … even more so, if you’re the only developer on the team that knows Flash.

On a related note, this from Vera’s blog … Using Flash to teach music

On a related note to sound in flash … I came across this off of Vera F’s blog …

Using Flash to teach music

“Last week at Flash Forward, I ran into my friend Tim. He is an avid violin player and really likes to combine Flash with math and sound. He showed me some of what he has been working on lately: A 3D circular arrangement that shows the relationships between musical keys. Be sure to have your speakers or headphones on when you click around in it. This page has some more information on what exactly is going on.” - Vera

shockwave based theremin … a newage musical instrument!

Sunday, March 14th, 2004

Check this shockwave app out … it’s a simulation of a “theremin” … if you don’t know what that is, well, it’s sort of a new age/space like musical instrument … it’s been used in a few songs to date … probably a bit of rave music to boot … I also read it was used in a beach boys song … good vibrations.

Anyways, not that productive, but it’s a neat toy if you like that sort of thing.

Object Oriented Programming with AS 2.0 - by New Riders

Object Oriented Programming with AS 2.0 - by New Riders … just picked up this book, looks like a decent book until Moock comes out with a winner.

Talks about data structures, event handling, and other things Macromedia neglects to talk about in their docs.

Check it out when you get a chance.
