Proposed … a MAX 2005 Flash Mobile Social Gathering? What do you think?

Event: MAX 2005 Flash Mobile Social Gathering
Place: TBD
Time: TBD

I’m imagining it would be small get together in a social setting (meaning drinks would be on-hand … everyone pays their own way or buys drinks for one another).

This would be open to anyone who is into Flash Mobile (ppc, FL, Flash Cast, etc) …

Anyone interested? Post below with ideas … I’m thinking it would be maybe an hour or two sometime in the evening on one of the conference days.

FYI: Friends of Ed … forthcoming titles: Animation: Making Things Move, Flash 8 Essentials, Flash Applications for Mobile Devices, Foundation Flash 8 …

“Forthcoming” titles we can look forward to from Friends of Ed.

I know Keith has posted on his blog about getting his stuff finalized … the others, well I’d expect them over the next few months … most of them say November release … but those are estimates …

Other Flash 8 books coming out?

I’m sure there is a Flash 8 Magic book in the works, and probably Flash 8 Bible from IDG. Others? I’d love to see a AS 2.5 book from Moock (the Flash 8 Essentials sounds familiar). :)

C’ya MT, hello Wordpress.

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

C’ya MT, hello Wordpress. I’ve made the switch. So far so good.

Also, I’ve come up with this new design. This was the second of 3 designs.

If you have problems with a browser, or can’t find a resource please email. I made best efforts to plan, but unforunately moving a blog isn’t as easy as one would
like.

If you gone through the motions with mod_rewrite, please leave a comment here.

Flash + Crank Yankers + Make Magazine + Telemarketers = Meet the tc2k

“Do-not call” lists not working for you?

If you answered a resounding, yes, you’ll likely want to build yourself one of these devices … especially, if you’re the kind of person that subscribes to MAKE magazine.

Meet the Telecrapper 2000, a “revolutionary” new device.

For an immediate FLASH DEMO (uahhhh, just click on it, be brave).

I do not advocate the sadistic nature of this device on legitmate callers.

< 30 days till Flash 8 Player Penetration?

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

30days.png

Ok, so the Flash Player 8 was released some time ago … the obvious question is penetration rate … well, this free communitymx article - Pushing Flash 8 by Robert has some insight …

It’s been so long, I had forgotten that FP7 had the check update feature (enabled by default for 30 day checkups).

If all goes as planned, we should see a higher penetration rate … why?

Most people think of updates in terms of Windows updates … meaning most mom & pop types are likely to download because they think it probably fixes some security hole.

What, no ipod nano case? The ipod nano fits nicely into an altoids container!

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

What, no ipod nano case/sleeve?

Apparently, as far as I can tell there is no case for the nano until October timeframe, PLUS I’m not even sure if they will create ipod armor for it … but not to fret.

I just noticed the ipod nano fits nicely into an altoids container … much like my optio camera … so with a little make shift padding you can store your nano in there … you could even get fancy and drill a hole(s) in the side for the earphone jack and connector … instant case mod for < $2.00. :)

Flash Quirks … we’ve all encountered them … this one was the strangest …

Saturday, September 10th, 2005

Flash Quirks.

We know they are there. Sometimes they are in fact bugs, othertimes they are undocumented pitfalls in Flash … othertimes they are … uhemmm .. user error. :)

Sometimes I ‘m surprised there isn’t a flash “best practices” type book … (the o’reilly hacks book is more tricks). Moock’s books are the closest I suppose … but, Macromedia should be commended for putting comments into their help docs … I can’t count how many times that’s saved everyone from banging their heads against the wall because something crucial was left out of docs … don’t get me wrong, Flash is a great product, it’s just more involved than most people realize, especially when you try to maximize it’s capabilities.
