Keith also has a good summary of what transpired at the meeting.

For those of you unable to attend … we did record via breeze, however the quality of audio is lacking, so we decided not to post unless you are diehard and send us a request email.

PSP Homebrew Flash Player Confirmed

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Here are some recent photos from Phillip Torrone, of make and flashenabled fame … fiddling with the unofficial PSP player that’s been floating around.

According to the authors:

“The current version supports most action script through version 7 and runs on 1.5 only. We are currently testing for 2.x PSPs and will announce when it is working on 2.x firmwares. If someone gets it working, be sure to let us know.”

More info:

I’ve also read some speculation that Sony may want to put an official player on the device.

Webdu 2006 Celebrity Head (Flash Lite) Game

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Dal-eeee-oh (aka Mr. Moket) pre-released Celebrity Head for the upcoming Webdu 2006 conference.

A nice spin on a conference guide. After all, it’s about the people there anyways. :)

See if you can spot Dale, Bill, or James Talbot.

Anyways, a fun little ditty, if your session turns out to be a wash (unlikely I know).

Nice Job Dale.

Joshua Davis and Helio articles in Wired Magazine

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

In the latest article of Wired (March 2006), there are 2 things that you might think are cool.

  • 1. An article on Josh Davis entitled: “The barely controlled chaos of Joshua Davis”

Mostly about Josh and Brandon’s “generative composition machines”, which they showed last year at FITC 2005.

I still remember Josh explaining how he got the idea for the tool website from a Super Mario brother game with the “fucking secret” door that “made him nutz for days and nights” … as he might say. Not a direct quote, but close. :)

See the photo below for an output example of the algorithm given a set of critiera (aka stuff), Josh did for the music group tool.

Anyways, it’s cool and I’m sure you’ve seen his work in one place or another … this is what happens when you put creative genius in touch with a creative architect.

Hey, you know what? I have a feeling this is first time a Flash Developer has made it into Wired, please correct me if I’m wrong (added: see below for Rob’s comment).

    Will Apple adopt Windows?

    Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

There is a really interesting article in the March issue of PC Magazine, entitled: “Will Apple adopt Windows?” … written by John Dvorak.

The idea is that of Yakov Epstein, a professor at Rutgers (who? Yeah mean neither) …

Now, I’m not claiming to agree or even remotely think it’s a good idea … but after reading the article, I am more apt to believe that one day Steve Jobs will get up on stage and give a speal on how Windows is good for Apple … sounds far fetched I know, but the article has some compelling signs as of late … here are 4 signs pointed in the article:

    iriver u10 forum - www.u10do.com (you-ten-doe)

    Monday, February 20th, 2006

Craig Babcock officially launched an online forum dedicated specifically to the u10 recently in case you missed the previous blog entry by Alessandro.

    It’s aptly named ‘U10DO’ (you-ten-doe) .

It features forums, links, gallery, etc.

Definately worth checking out if you’re an u10 lover, or would like to know more info about the device and its capabilities.

    Multi-Touch Interaction Experiments

    Sunday, February 19th, 2006

“While touch sensing is commonplace for single points of contact, multi-touch sensing enables a user to interact with a system with more than one finger at a time, as in chording and bi-manual operations.

Such sensing devices are inherently also able to accommodate multiple users simultaneously, which is especially useful for larger interaction scenarios such as interactive walls and tabletops.”

DESIGNING FOR smallscreens - A MUST HAVE BOOK !

    Sunday, February 19th, 2006

If you are doing Flash Mobile development … this book is an absolute must have.

lis186 (who has an awesome blog by the way) posted about it a while back, and I just got my copy.

The concepts in it can be applied across the board (cell, ppc, mp3 players, game consoles, etc). It’s all about mobile usability & design.

Some of the concepts in it are no-brainers … but it’s always good to see stuff down on paper, especially when you have been applying design principles because “all-the-cool-kids” are doing it.

Overall, the book is a pretty decent resource, and I challenge you to find a better mobile specific book. :)
