FITC Hollywood 2006 - An “explosion” of fun, interactivity & learning!

FITC Hollywood 2006

What do you get when you cross FITC with Hollywood? An “explosion” of fun, interactivity & learning, that’s what!

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but FITC is branching out this year. During October 5-7, interactive folks from around the world are set to converge on Hollywood, CA for FITC in Hollywood. Yeah, Hollywood, “City of the Stars”.

Should we expect Mike Downey to Halo jump to the crowd below? Will Mike Chambers jump through a glass window to defuse the ticking bomb? I’m not sure … ;)

BFPUG with John Grden, two thumbs up

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

I managed to catch some of John Grden’s presentation at the latest BFPUG (Boston Flash Platform User Group) meeting this evening (well, yesterday evening that is).

Besides being a nice guy and great presenter (I had seen him speak at FITC), I thoroughly enjoyed his very last experiment, the Video capture / animation controller. This is a work in progress, but the idea is a great one (using a video source to “puppetmaster” a dynamic 3d model, all in Flash).

Check out more of his experiments, and definately watch the presentation when it becomes an archive.

Journey of Jin - Flash Lite 2 “RPG” Game

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

journeyofjin

Stephen Dinehart has put a really great Flash Lite 2 game on the Flash Lite exchange called Journey of Jin. Check it out!

This is the first bit of Flash Lite 2.x content to be posted on the Exchange, so congrats, Stephen.

This looks like another addictive game like the oldskool SokoFlash by Pasi. However, this is more of an RPG.

I like the fact that incorporates a continued storyline, a nice way to hook people into the content. Brilliant.

Here is the Journey of Jin website.

Flash in Tahiti conference anyone?

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

No, of course there isn’t such a thing!

But, I caught this in e-week, and thought to myself, now there’s no good reason why there can’t be a Flash in Tahiti conference! :)

Read on.

… “Ask the average network administrator about Cisco Systems’ MCK or NRK, and you’re likely to get a blank stare.

That’s because, other than international relief agencies, few know about Cisco’s skunk works project—a network in a box designed to deliver in the worst circumstances.

Joining the MacBook owner crowd

Monday, June 26th, 2006

I went with the MacBook Pro 15″, since this will combine both my legacy Voodoo PC laptop for development purposes and my trusty old 17″ PowerBook G4 for design. I’m consolidating two machines into one (well almost) … the goal is to have one laptop and one OS by the end of the year for both design and development … This will leave my Alienware desktop rig for all the above (plus games).

And if you’re wondering, I’m running both bootcamp and parallels, since I’m not completely switched (yet).

Flash Lite Warez

Monday, June 26th, 2006

I was searching around for recent Flash Lite content via a prominent search engine … and low and behold, came across what I thought at first was a new mobile aggregator … well, it was in a way …

Flash Lite content was being aggregated by what else, a warez site. Yep, one specializing in mobile apps/games.

This wasn’t free content either. The developers and CP’s (content providers) are selling it online at various legitimate aggregators. Yes, it was bound to happen sooner or later (in fact, it’s probably been there all along, just not as apparent or easily discoverable). In fact, it wasn’t just FL, it was other platforms as well.

TiVo desktop upgrade 2.3 adds mobile video formats

Saturday, June 24th, 2006

I caught this from Darla Mack’s blog.

Here’s the gist of the upgrade as it pertains to mobile …

“Upgrade the free version of TiVo Desktop to TiVo Desktop Plus and automatically convert your TiVoToGo transfers for iPod, PSP, Treo, Nokia, and other portable devices that support MPEG-4 or H.264 video.”

Apparently for $25 USD, you can upgrade the TiVo desktop software to allow for export to: iPOD, PSP, Tero, Nokia (N80 right now), and most devices that support MP4 or H.264 video. Sweet.

Here are the formats available right now:

R.I.P. F11 key

Monday, June 19th, 2006

I think the pictures say it all. My Voodoo laptop has suffered a minor injury … now, if I put the F11 key under my pillow … does the magic key fairy visit?
