iFizzle - a mock OSX environment done in Flash

Friday, July 28th, 2006

ifizzle

This is via lis186. It’s a mock OSX environment in Flash.

Interestingly enough, I did something similar a couple years back for System 7, in Flash 5 or 6 … but this one is a lot cooler (well it won’t be so cool in 2 years, but for the here and now it is!).

The creator of site will undoubtedly pick up a new his/her efforts!

I’m doubtful Apple would take legal action against the individual for promoting the OS & lineup… while trying to attain a macbook pro.

Mobile Device Profile Update History

device settings

I know this probably isn’t exactly the best forum to post feature requests per se, but I felt like this was important enough to blog about.

First off, I don’t think I’d get any arguments if I said that the Flash Lite Mobile Emulator is perhaps the best thing since sliced bread when it comes to Flash Mobile Development.

However, in regards to Mobile Device Profile updates (MDP’s) … I just wanted to suggest that a “change mod” text file be added to future updates (copying a text file within the .MXP is fine). This file would contain a history of device profile changes for each update.

gmail POP3 access acting “flakey” recently?

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Is it just me or has gmail POP access been acting “flakey” recently? I’ve noticed it has been often unavailable several times within the last couple weeks.

HTTP access is fine, seems only POP is in turmoil … maybe they’re dealing with some DOS attacks, or upgrading? Not sure. I’m fairly sure it’s not on my end.

I killed my macbook pro delete key

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

deletekey.jpg

Crap. I seem to have the worst luck with keys these days.

Now, my macbook pro delete key popped off! Either it’s because I am doing a lot of programming, or it’s a defect on my macbook pro.

Now, I’m not that much of hunt and peck typer! I’d rate myself as a moderate typer (40 wpm?), and not a “key pounder” either. So I’m more inclined to think it may have been loose to begin with. Either that, or perhaps the key connections might have gotten hot enough to expand and then detach? … just a hunch. I’d hate to think that it is either problem.

Nokia N93 available for preorder

Monday, July 24th, 2006

nokia_n93_cell_phone_final.jpg

Both Mobilebee and Expansys are starting to take online preorders for the beast that is the Nokia N93. Expansys also has an aluminum grey model, for those who are picky and choosy.

Mobilebee is saying the expected shipping date is T-minus 39 days (bringing the ship date to around September 2006).

At around a $900 street price, this is definately not a device you want to sling around! With a price tag like that … I would say, more than likely, you’re going to carry it around more like a faberge egg! … unless you’re related to Donald Trump that is.

“Strings” - who says you need special effects?

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

strings.jpg

“Strings”. This is one of the most interesting movies I’ve seen in a while. By interesting, I really mean unique.

I believe it’s a Danish film. View the trailer to get an idea of what it’s about. Just don’t be too rash to judge it based on the trailer. It really doesn’t do it any justice. Check out the (Flash) site instead.

I’d highly recommend Strings to anyone that is looking for something out of the ordinary in terms of fantasy/sci-fi movies. At a whim I picked it up at the library, thinking it might be somewhat simliar to the legendary Jim Henson movie, called Dark Crystal (circa 1982).

However, much to my delight, this movie turned out to be a whole lot darker, and had more character depth than I would have thought possible with puppets.

u10 content

Off of the Japanese portal for the u10, I noticed some new FL 1.1 content mixed in with existing titles. Enjoy.

Remapping keys on a macbook pro

Friday, July 14th, 2006

As a follow up to Grant’s post on key combos for OSX … I came across a few utilities which allow you remap your keys for windows usage on the mac book pro.

All of these are free. You can use them to customize your keyboard layout to your own preferences. However, be careful how you map things out, or you could potentially wreak some keyboard havoc! … if you do get into trouble, rebooting into safe mode should get you out of it …

Also be aware that except for the Microsoft remapkeys, these are all third party programs.

Some FITC 2006 Interviews and Video Presentations

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

I noticed the folks at FiTC have posted some “interviews” and recorded presentatons from FITC 2006.

I missed Moock’s AS 3 preso while I was there so it’s good to see it posted online. More than likely, there will be some more on their way (see feeds below).

Ben Fry’s and Gmunk’s presentations are posted as well … again both I missed … but in a way, it’s a good thing … a testiment to the amount of great presentations you can attend and still not see it all. Nice to see some of the presentations online.
