Microsoft Vista Beta 2 for free

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

I thought this might be of interest for at least a few folks that are diehard Windows fans.
Microsoft has a short survey where you can pick up Vista Beta 2 for free.
There is no doubt this expires after some usage … but it might be nice to slap onto a spare (non-production) machine [...]

What’s in my library?

Monday, August 14th, 2006

I just posted about Delicious Monster.
What’s in my library? (a whole lot of Flash and tech books, that’s what) …
Here’s what I’ve scanned so far … still have to do movies (don’t really have too many though), and physical CDs (blah), and of course, MP3’s.
There are plugins available to export to web and [...]

Delicious Monster (OSX) - Catalog, browse, share media

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Catalog, browse, and share all your books, movies, music, and video games with Delicious Library.
This is really great for keeping track of all your media.
I scanned all my books, some of my movies, and some of my games. Pretty cool and practical for those that like to lend out their media assets.
I wish [...]

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Bill Perry just posted a video clip of the newly marketed Verizon Wireless Chocolate handset which is running a Flash Lite User Interface (FLUI) in several areas of the device.
Soon, it also will be running Flash Lite For Brew.

This is the first device in the US (North America) to run a Flash Lite UI.
Anyways, [...]

11 is better than 10?

Friday, August 11th, 2006

… Nigel would not make for a very good UI designer.

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and…
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it’s louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it’s [...]

The Making of a Nokia Phone

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

This is via Darla Mack … an article by businessweek on the manufacturering process of Nokia handsets.
Wow. Nokia = 10 phones per second, every hour of every day, all year long.
Here are the links:

Nokia’s Magnificent Mobile-Phone Manufacturing Machine
The making of … a Nokia Phone

I wonder if this step, “Testing and Configuring”, is where Flash Lite [...]

Mike Downey interviewed by CNET

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

I caught this off cnet. Mike Downey gives CNET an interview about Flash (and even a bit of mobile).
I thought it was cool to hear about the Flash UI in the Jaguar, as I had seen prototypes for customizable dashboard display “skins” a while back for another car manufacturer (allowing you to change the look [...]

Fly Southwest to MAX 2006?

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

If you’re looking to save a few bucks on a plane ticket to MAX 2006 you might want to check out SouthWest Airlines (US domestic flights).
I’ve never flown with them, but I’ve heard only good things.
Apparently they keep their prices low by employing smart business practices, like hedging on fuel prices (among other [...]

Yukyung viliv p2 coming soon

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

There is more information about the upcoming viliv p2.
The (Korean) device is Flash Lite 2 enabled.
In addition, it not only supports audio and visual functionality, but also has GPS and DMB capabilities (although I’m not sure if the later will be for the US market).
It also can dual boot Linux and Windows CE. [...]
