@ BFPUG: 1 copy of Foundation Flash Applications for Mobile Devices giveaway

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

I will be giving away one free copy of the Foundation Flash Applications for Mobile Devices book at the BFPUG (Boston Flash Platform User Group) meeting tonight (Feb 27, 2007 @ 7pm at the New England Art Institute in Brookline, MA). You can find more info here.

I believe Todd Anderson and Josh Noble are presenting in lieu of Joey. They are “Schematians” working with Joey. The topics are State Manager and UML. Anyways, it’s all good.

Hagakure - Book of the Samuari #5

“There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you still get the same soaking. This understanding extends to everything.” - Hagakure (Book of the Samurai), Yamamoto Tsunetomo

Flash Lite 3.0 feature requests

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

I think NOW would be a great time to start submitting feature requests for Flash Lite 3 to the Adobe Mobile team.

Felipe recently had a post about what developer’s would like to see in Flash Lite 3.0. I thought I’d cross post here, as well as leave comments open here, since apparently Adobe lurks here sometimes.

In regards to features … it’s imperative to not only submit features you desire, but give specific use cases for each. So, instead of saying for example, I want X. Try: I want X, because I will use it for Y, and Z.

Hagakure - Book of the Samuari#4

Hagakure

“These are the teachings of Yamamoto Jin’emon:

‘Singlemindedness is all-powerful.’

‘Tether even a roasted chicken.’

‘Continue to spur a running horse.’

‘A man who will criticize you openly carries no connivance.’

‘A man exists for a generation, but his name lasts to the end of time.’

‘Money is a thing that will be there when asked for. A good man is not so easily found.’

‘Walk with a real man one hundred yards and he’ll tell you at least seven lies.’

‘To ask when you already know is politeness. To ask when you don’t know is the rule.’

BREW 2007 Developer Awards. Flash Lite submissions!

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

I don’t know if Adobe has mentioned this or not, but if you have developed Flash Lite BREW content, you might want to think about submitting to the 2007 BREW conference Developer’s awards (which have been extended).

I’m not entirely sure if the entries are limited to only those who currently have applications available on the deck, but I am guessing that it wouldn’t hurt for people to submit independent Flash Lite for BREW content as well.

See below for more info:

Flash Lite versus “FlashLite”

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

I’ve seen a rapidly growing trend of using “FlashLite” (one word) instead of “Flash Lite” ™ (2 words).

I think it’s probably best to always use “Flash Lite” ™ as that is what MaD Marketing team has used from day one to describe the product.

However, I guess one could make a case that it is easier to search on? … or perhaps this is just misuse due to legacy Adobe FlashCast ™ terminology. But, not any more … Adobe has split Adobe® Flash® Cast™ from one word.

Anyways, I’d thought I’d post, since I see it almost daily.

Total Training Flash Lite 2.1 DVD with Dale Rankine

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

I managed to pickup a copy of Dale Rankine’s “Total Training Flash Lite 2.1″ DVD that is out and about. For obvious reasons, I can’t review it “as intended” (a training tool for those fresh to Flash Lite 2.1). However, I can tell you that on a personal level, I had a bit of fun watching Dale in action throughout the entire DVD.

Yes, it’s about 5 hours of pure, unadulterated Dale discussing Flash Lite 2.1 and Mobile Development through some exercises, as well as covering many of the prominent features that make Flash Lite a powerful delivery platform for mobile applications, games, and other content.
