Adobe MAX 2007 banner - where’s Bill?

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Dale had a recent observation about “Where’s Bill?” … aka the absence of Bill Perry from the MAX 2007 North America banner.

Bill Perry - Manager of global developer relations for mobile and devices at Adobe.

With all the Flash mobile going on at that North America event (Yes, Bill is speaking on Flash Lite 3 in addition to some other folks you already should know) … but, where is Bill on the banner for Flash Mobile?

Here’s a little initiative to get Bill up on the MAX 2007 banner coming from Dale.

Flash Lite for BREW: recent stats and info

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Bill Perry had a recent post about Flash Lite for BREW, as well as last week’s BREW conference. This includes some recent device and subscriber stats.

Although there are no recordings (thus far, at least) from the BREW event, a presentation is available from flashdevices.net.

Also, just a note, but the Flash Lite 2.1 BREW Publisher for CS3 is now available for download (although I do not think there is a Mac version right now). You can get more info over at flashdevices.net.

More resources on Verizon and BREW are available over at Mobile and Devices @ Adobe.

Flash MaD linkedin.com group now active

Flash MaD linkedin.com group

Alessandro setup a formal linkedin group for for Flash Mobile and Device members over at linkedin.com.

We (Flash Mobile Professionals) can now be one step better at being interconnected, even if we many of us are physically dispersed by regions.

I personally have been using linkedin for a while and it is a useful application. linked-in is quite good at what it does (connecting work professionals together).

It’s a nice addition to the social tools available (mailing lists, e-seminars, user group meetings, etc) to the Flash Mobile community.

Chumby shares some info on features and launch plans

Chumby - new profile

I was holding off on posting about the Chumby announcements until I heard officially from those fine folks (Steve and Duane … greetings, hope you are both well!) over at Chumby Industries.

As well as some some Engadget coverage today … Steve Tomlin recently posted some news about the production version of the chumby scheduled to launch later this year (a bit later than expected, but so what. Better to get it right).

Some key things to take away from his latest post are:

Apple iPhone Guided Video Tour

Apple put up a guided video tour of the iPhone. Much of this we have already seen, but it’s nice to have it all in one place.

Creating and Testing Mobile Web Sites with Adobe Creative Suite 3

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Adobe Creative Suite 3 rocks …

As Flash Mobile designers and developers, the new Adobe Device Central CS3 is giving us a much improved way to test our Flash Lite content than was previously possible within the Flash 8 Mobile Emulator.

Adobe Device Central CS3

There are some really great new features that have been implemented such as: device profile searching, device set creation, CS3 product workflow integration, performance and memory reporting, and many more (check out the FAQ and tutorials page for more info on Adobe Device Central). Many (“Flash Mobi-Lites”) are leveraging these features to save testing time, an important part of mobile development for sure!

Nintendo DS Lite … how do you improve on near perfection?

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

Apparently, there’s some speculative talk about a second version of the Nintendo DS Lite over at dsfanboy and engadget.

My question: How do you improve on near perfection?

I’m sure Nintendo has some good ideas to answer this question (if the rumors are in fact true).

UPDATE: There is a reason why I said “near” perfection. Sure you could add x,y,z and features, but it would either a.) blow the price point or b.) change it sufficiently till it’s no longer a portable gaming device … but, rather a PMP or other hybrid device (all of which it can do now with add-ons). The purpose of the post is to say that Nintendo hit the mark on providing a cheap, but elegant portable game device … I wonder what they might do to improve on this specific device design.

iRiver U:MO PMP features Flash Lite 2.1 UI and content

Monday, June 18th, 2007

iRiver U:MO

Via engadget … not surprisingly, iRiver has just announced yet another PMP like device with Flash Lite 2.1 onboard.

This device supports Flash Lite content (games), as well as the infamous D-Click User Interface.

Looks very similar to the iRiver B20 profile, except this device has access to satellite programming (i.e. it supports tv, radio, & other media via DMB) (hence the nasty looking, but much needed antenna).

I’m sure it’ll launch on iRiver soon, at which point I’ll post again. Right now, you can check out a post on the iRiver U:MO (translated from Japanese).

YEPP T-9+ PMP supports multiplayer Bluetooth gaming

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

YEPP T-9

The Korean YEPP T-9+ Personal Media Player supports preinstalled games.

Could these be Flash Lite bluetooth games?! I’m not exactly sure how they are implementing these at the lowest level (API? XmlSockets?), if this is the case … however, the US based T-9 does promote Flash Lite standalone games … so perhaps this is Flash Lite content with some hooks to tie in with bluetooth.

If these multiplayer games are indeed Flash Lite games … then this was something YEPP has apparently added custom to the device and is NOT part of typical Flash Lite runtimes at present time … without “3rd part assistance”, that is)!
