Cell-Phone Junkies Feel Phantom Ring Vibrations

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

A reporter (Ellen Simon) contacted me sometime ago about this phenomenon, but I (luckily) wasn’t really a severely effected candidate!

Do you suffer Cell-Phone Junkies Feel Phantom Ring Vibrations?

There’s a reason why they call them “Crack-Berries”, folks. :)

Is this really a case of someone dying from an ‘exploding’ phone?

Melted Cell Battery from a Korean LG

Yesterday, some Korean news reported about a Korean quarry worked who died from what was reported to be an “exploding” cell phone.

Today, they are quick to report: “Phone may not have killed worker”.

Here is some of what was reported:

“… The quarry worker, whose name has not been released, was found dead Wednesday with a melted phone battery in his shirt pocket, according to police. He also had a broken spine and ribs as well as heart and lung injuries …”

Adobe e-seminar: Flash Lite and Flex for mTourism

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Another e-seminar is scheduled for January 23, 2008 entitled: “Flash Lite and Flex for mTourism” by untravelmedia.com.

What they’re doing with Flash Lite is very cool.

The Flex app is also uniquely innovative, and I’m sure they’ll talk more about it in this session.

mTourism is an interesting market; and I’m confident will grow over time as people don’t think twice about using their respective mobile devices to look up schedules, places of interest, etc.

Did my blog stop aggregating on MXNA?

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

If you are reading this via MXNA, then disregard …

Just an FYI, but my blog apparently stopped aggregating on MXNA.

No idea why. It appears to be working fine on my end and aggregates elsewhere …

Granted, I install a lot of plugins and what not, it may be it’s on my end, but I think it’s something to do with MXNA.

Don’t really have the time to thoroughly investigate right now. I have an email into Adobe, to see if it’s something on that end.

Check back here often until it’s back on MXNA.

Nokia N810 tablet out in the wild: unboxing & review

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Nokia N810 Internet Tablet

I “can-z be-z jealous”! There’s a Nokia N810 unboxing ceremony and accompanying review over at arstechnica.com.

If you didn’t know, the N810 is what Nokia is calling an “internet tablet” (logically, it’s the “successor” to the N800, which didn’t receive much fan fare IMHO).

It’s got a Flash 9 player (browser based implementation I do believe), FYI. Performance, I have heard, is pretty decent in terms of a mobile mindset.

What’s more … it also runs a new OS called Nokia OS2008 which is built on maemo. Looks nice, but I haven’t had the pleasure of trying it first hand, yet.

iRiver Clix “Plus” PMP?

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Via engadgetsome speculation on a “new” iRiver Clix device: 2/4/8GB capacities and a rumored 3-inch LCD. You can see the “teaser” here.

Original source from irverfans.com. I’ll believe it when I see the mystery device up on www.iriver.co.kr.

No word whether this iRiver device supports Flash Lite (if it even exists, that is).

Advertising powered Nokia Download! Nokia client (UK only)

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Nokia Advertising powered Download! client (UK only)

For those living in the UK, Nokia BETA labs has an Advertising-powered Download! client for S60 available.

Supposedly, this is going to enable at least some of the downloadable content in the Download! catalog to be free.

Very cool (if you are in the UK).

Here is more info:

Overview

Download! is a service available today on Nokia devices. With Download! you can find, try and buy compatible mobile content. We’re testing a new version of Download! that includes banner ads – in the future these ads will fund some of the content available in Download! so you’ll be able to find more free downloads, more often.

The Mobile Blitz: How Advertising, Music and Video are Changing the Mobile Landscape

Hosted by Mass Network Communications on November 28

Wireless devices are quickly morphing into all-purpose communications devices, allowing consumers to send and download music, photos, and movies, while communicating over a wide array of media — voice, video, email, and text. A combined voice and data phone that is personalized to its owner provides an exciting environment to target services. The increased data bandwidth now available in many networks also broadens the application opportunities.
