Melted Cell Battery from a Korean LG

Yesterday, some Korean news reported about a Korean quarry worked who died from what was reported to be an “exploding” cell phone.

Today, they are quick to report: “Phone may not have killed worker”.

Here is some of what was reported:

“… The quarry worker, whose name has not been released, was found dead Wednesday with a melted phone battery in his shirt pocket, according to police. He also had a broken spine and ribs as well as heart and lung injuries …”

and:

“.. It is difficult to conclude that the damage of internal organs was caused by the cell phone battery explosion,” Yonhap quoted an unnamed medical examiner as saying …

There is some info over at engadget as well.

I’m sure someone will take up the charge, and try to replicate this incident with a mobile; as was done earlier this year with a laptop battery (BTW: This was a provoked and planned experiment).
