Flash Lite 1.x book from Japan
December 27th, 2007 by Scott JanousekI noticed a Flash Lite 1.x book was released over in Japan.
Japan has been a Flash Lite 1.x market for the last few years (since 2003-2004) … but generally speaking … so is much of the rest of the world, if you want to get the best penetration rate (in terms of world wide consumption) of your content!
However, if you hadn’t heard recently, the Japanese are (for the most part), bypassing 2.x and moving directly to Flash Lite 3.x with DoCoMo leading the charge with a majority of their new device lineup. Honestly, I can’t recall if SoftBank or KDDI have announced (yet) …
Wonder what the next few years will be like for that market.
Anyways, it’s always interesting to get a global perspective of how each region is utilizing Flash Lite. This book seems to be all about Flash Lite content that is consumed there, right now.
P.S.
While we are on topic of new books! I have some upcoming announcements regarding some more recent written materials (regarding Flash Mobile) by yours truly. Hopefully I will be able to share this info soon.
Stay tuned in early 2008!

Scott,
I recently joined the group and was interested to see this posting about the book. I’ve recently started working with a Japanese company that specializes in Flash Lite development and am familiarizing myself with Panasonic’s new P905i. I recenly purchased and have gone through the majority of “Flash Applications for Mobile Devices” and find it to be extremely relevant and useful. Kudos to all of the authors! I’ve co-authored software related books in the field of visual effects (Maya & Houdini How-To’s) and know what an endeavor it is.
I was recently on business in Japan and was shown an older Japanese Flash Lite book and I’ll definitely have a look at this one on my next trip in January.
Will you be in Barcelona in Feb.?
Best Regards,
Ken.

Hey, Ken.
Yes, there are two other Flash Lite books there as well.
One on 1.1 animation and another on 1.1 with some 2.x content. I posted about them a while back so you can search via my blog to find them …
Since this book I posted about here has the new Device Central generic device profile … I imagine it is up to speed with CS3.
The P905i looks pretty sweet from afar!
Not sure of my schedule in Feb. but I would like to attend in Barcelona. Have to see if I can manage it …
