Attending CTIA Wireless and Forum Nokia Developer Days next week

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Forum Nokia Developer Days @ CITA Wireless

On Sunday, I am leaving to attend Forum Nokia Developer Days and a bit of CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas.

Should be a fun time, especially since I missed out on Mobile World Congress.

Anyways, I hope to see a few familiar faces there (as well as new ones).

For those unable to attend … I also plan to do as much moblogging, qik’ing, flix’ing, twibbl’ing and twhipst’ing as I can (given battery, network access, and GPS coverage).

Nokia N95 firmware update (v 21.0.016) includes Flash Lite 3 and WRT

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

The Nokia N95 firmware udpate (v 21.0.016) is now available (might not be all regions) (via allaboutsymbian and Alessandro).

This includes embedded Flash Lite 3 and WRT, among other enhancements, fixes, etc:

What’s new for v21.0.016 (over and above v20 firmware):

  • Flash Lite 3 is included, so Flash video sites will work, including YouTube (just as on the N95 8GB v15 firmware from a couple of months ago)
  • The Web runtime is included, meaning that standalone widgets are now possible
  • Greater Bluetooth headset compatibility
  • Better handling of entering lots of text into web page dialogs
  • Speedier Gallery in every way
  • Faster Java runtime, so Java apps start faster
  • plus the usual miscellaneous bug fixes and tweaks, no doubt!
  • IMPORTANT NOTE (3/27/2008):

Flash Lite … is RIM missing a competitive edge over the Apple?

    Monday, March 24th, 2008

    rim.com

Recent announcements over the past few months with Apple’s iPhone confirmed that it’s Apple’s intent to go after market share in business enterprise.

Given, that RIM (Research In Motion) accounts for a large percentage of mobile devices in the hands of professionals (and also a side note: the recent Microsoft announcement about licensing Flash Lite 3).

    My question is:

In terms of mobile user experience … would Flash Lite give RIM an additional competitive edge over Apple iPhone, if they were to license the Flash Lite player?
