Read private data stored on any Cell Phone SIM card
March 4th, 2008 by Scott JanousekThis is nothing new (a SIM card reader/writer) … but this specific device is getting a bit of coverage, today.
I caught this a while back, but I wanted to wait a bit until I saw more coverage of it (to help substantiate some of it’s feature claims … besides the typical SIM backup).
Save, edit and delete your phone book and short messages (SMS) stored on your SIM card using the Recovery PRO software and SIM Recovery Pro Reader with your computer and ANY standard SIM card from a standard cell phone which supports removable SIM cards
Note: I have not purchased it yet, but it does look like a handy gadget for mobile savvy folks.
It’s a SIM card inspector and manipulator (to some degree) for many on market GSM phones.
The company (Brick House Security) is marketing as a “spying” tool, but I think a lot of mobile developer’s may have a use or to for it (SIM card data backup/recovery for one).
Here are some of the features:
- Copy your phone book onto your PC
- Allows user to find deleted text
- Allows user to view up to last 10 numbers dialed.
- Transfer data from one SIM card to another
- Edit SIM card information on your computer
- Back up phone numbers and SMS messages
- Forensically examine your SIM card to find deleted text messages and numbers
- Program your SIM card to only dial numbers and make calls that your permit. (Good for controlling
- children’s calls or company employees.)
- Allows you to backup, restore and edit your phone book.
- Easy transfer of data from one SIM card to another SIM card.
You can find it here for $149.00 and S/H. You get:
- USB SIM Card Spy Recovery Pro Reader
- SIM Card Spy Recovery Pro software CD
- User Guide
Devices like this make it easy for anyone to snoop, so you should take privacy and security a lot more seriously on your mobile device (ever get an SMS with your account info?
) …
This is especially true, if say, you are unfortunate enough to lose, or have your favorite device stolen!

Just wondering - is that really new, i.e. where’s the selling point for $149.00 US? I can remember having software that was doing that for my Nokia 8210 (pre-Symbian) in 2000 or 2001 or so…

Kai, it is not new at all … however, it’s getting coverage here in the US, recently.
Apparently (some) people (parent’s and spouses most probably) want to snoop for $149.00.
I’ve used some hardware SIM backups before, but I’m curious to find out whether this specific device works well.
