Nokia N95 firmware update (v 21.0.016) includes Flash Lite 3 and WRT
March 26th, 2008 by Scott JanousekThe Nokia N95 firmware udpate (v 21.0.016) is now available (might not be all regions) (via allaboutsymbian and Alessandro).
This includes embedded Flash Lite 3 and WRT, among other enhancements, fixes, etc:
What’s new for v21.0.016 (over and above v20 firmware):
Flash Lite 3 is included, so Flash video sites will work, including YouTube (just as on the N95 8GB v15 firmware from a couple of months ago) The Web runtime is included, meaning that standalone widgets are now possible Greater Bluetooth headset compatibility Better handling of entering lots of text into web page dialogs Speedier Gallery in every way Faster Java runtime, so Java apps start faster plus the usual miscellaneous bug fixes and tweaks, no doubt!
IMPORTANT NOTE (3/27/2008):
I just went through the update on my N95. During the final steps of the install, the Nokia Software updater stopped responding and said “Connection to Phone Lost”.
On the N95, the device was left in “Test Mode”, and then shut off. Upon rebooting the N95 it went into white screen mode.
However, after doing a hard reset on the device, it did boot and in fact the firmware on the device now reflects the upgrade to 21.0.016.
Not sure what others are experiencing, but I wanted to let people know in case they were thinking of upgrading today (3/27/2008), before Nokia has potentially looked into this. It may be a fluke on my end … but typically firmware updates previously have been seamless!
I would recommend you backup your device (using Nokia PC Suite) first before attempting this update. Also be prepared to resync and restore your device properly. ![]()

For what it’s worth, I had a clean and trouble free upgrade…

Cesar, good to know. Obviously, the update trouble is in the minority.
No idea why it happens …
However, previously my 95 whitescreened after a severe drop, so maybe that plays into it … but to me it appears to be SW related. Not sure.
Anyways, I’m sure I’m in the minority in terms of having any kind of issues … I just wanted to post about it to see if anyone else had similar problems.

This happened to me too.
No whitescreen but the update did not complete.
I have 21.0.016 installed now. Testing hardware…

Roman, you could try to do a hard reset if you can’t get to any kind of menu … and the boot process is “stuck”:
1) Make sure phone is fully charged and switch it off.
2) Press simultaneously the green “call” button, ‘*’ and ‘3′, and keep them down.
3) With those 3 keys down, switch the phone on.
4) Only release the 3 keys when the phone shows signs of life such as the Nokia logo or the language selection screen.
This is essentially:
*#7780# is “reset to factory defaults” … after the phone has booted.
Good luck.

Dang. My screen has just failed. Can anyone post how to connect to PC suite ‘blind’ so I can back my data up before I dismantle it? Stuck in file transfer mode.

(8/28/08) Last night I left my phone on while it updated to the new firmware, this morning it told me there was a connection problem and the phone was white. Now the phone continues to be white, I’ve tried everything! The 3 key thing does not work. It seems like the phone is dead.
I put the wall adapter for power and then it automatically jumps to the white screen so there’s no time for the 3 button reset.
If I leave it charged and then take the wall power out and take the battery off, do the 3 button thing, it still doesn’t work.
I been walking around work trying all day and still, NOTHING!
Nokia is stupid for bringing out this update and sooo many people having the same problem. My phone is like 3 months old so I called them and they said I would receive an email of where to send my phone (somewhere in Alabama, the only service center in the USA!!) and 8 hours later, no email.
I need to call them again… I guess the good thing about them is that they sounded American and they pick up right away!
If anyone finds a solution, please share nesbie@gmail.com PLEASE
