3 generations of Flash Lite Mobile Guides for FITC.ca

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Recently, via Mark Doherty’s blog, I had noticed that Thomas Joos had created a mobile guide for the ongoing fitc.ca 2008 conference in Toronto this year (and also for FITC Amsterdam, previously this year).

I thought it was interesting to note the progression of mobile guides that have been created for the FITC conference (Toronto) over the past years, including:

2005 - (Flash Lite 1.1 - Creator: Scott Janousek, Target Device: Nokia 6620 or equivalent S60 device)

2007 - (Flash Lite 2.x - Creator: James Eberhardt, Target Device: Nokia 6680 or equivalent S60 device)

Adobe Case Study - Chumby Industries, Inc.

Monday, January 21st, 2008

cover.jpg

Chumby Industries has a recent case study posted on ADC. This is good high level read on how Chumby Industries is leveraging Flash Lite 3 within their consumer electronic device.

Here is a quote:

“Adobe Flash is the only stable, reliable product on the market to offer rich, colorful animation along with built-in security measures for media access. Rather than create a new suite of tools, we can leverage the sheer strength and expertise of the Flash community for content development.”

Stephen Tomlin, CEO, Chumby Industries, Inc

Adobe Device Central CS3 - Device Profile Update #4 released

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Adobe Device Central CS3

Device Profile Update #4 is now released for Adobe Device Central CS3.

Bill Perry has some installation comments, which you should read first.

Essentially … it boils down to installing the updates in “proper sequence”, (especially, if, say you’re just now catching up with Flash Lite and have a recent install with no previous updates. You’ll first want to install Profiles #1-3, before #4).

Also, it’s important to note this:

Before downloading Update #4, you must first download and install the Flash® Lite™ 3 Update for Device Central CS3.

Adobe DevNet article: 10 tips to help you develop better Flash Lite games

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

A new Adobe DevNet article: “Ten tips to help you develop better Flash Lite games” is available from Mariam.

“Mobile games are a big business with many talented developers creating compelling device content. Although most developers can write effective code, create interesting graphics, and test their games successfully, it is always helpful to review the best practices to follow—especially considering the wide variety of handsets on the market.

In this article I’ll provide tips to make your game design and development experience better and easier. My intention is not to provide an analysis of how to improve the game development process, but to share some tips that I picked up while developing Flash Lite games.”

Adobe Flash Lite and Reader LE Licensed by Microsoft!

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Via Ralph Hauwert: Microsoft has officially licensed Adobe Flash Lite (version 3.x) to run across Windows Mobile devices (and also Adobe Reader LE, BTW). Very cool!

Although from the release, it looks to be browser based (at this time) … even, so … this is very encouraging news for developers and early adopter clients who have dabbled in the Windows Mobile world with Flash Lite 2.x.

Documentation overall platform support from Adobe was always a bit lacking compared to early days of Pocket PC on Flash. Now that Microsoft is on board as an official licensee, we can expect that to change! (Check out Bill Perry’s (Adobe MaD) post)
