The Infrared5 office (in Jamica Plain, Boston), is offering a hub for the upcoming conference that runs from October 24-26th. They are hosting an event for Sat, October 25th (only).

For those that are not aware of the conference, here’s some info:

is a web conference that brings together some of the most interesting and exciting developers, designers, creatives, and thought leaders from around the web to share with you their passions and expertise.

The sessions cover a wide range of timely topics including web standards, accessibility, web application development, Flash, Flex, and scalability.

The premise for is simple: instead of making you come to the web conference, let’s make the web conference come to you.

is a web conference with all of the traditional elements. We have live speakers, presentations, question and answer sections, and networking opportunities. The twist is that the conference takes place everywhere — all over the world — and at real-world gatherings called local conference hubs.

And we use the Internet to tie it all together.

is an environmentally-friendly web conference.

We save on tons of emissions by avoiding flights and having speakers and attendees interact with the conference locally.

We are building these into our online community where attendees and non-attendees alike can interact before, during, and after the conference.

Both Keith Peters and Chris Allen are both speaking on the 25th, so rather than them having to give one of those “talking to ether” Connect sessions, why not lend them an audience on their “home turf”?

Flash on Tap conference in Boston rescheduled for May 28-30, 2009

If you haven’t heard the official news, Flash on Tap in Boston has been RESCHEDULED for May 28-30, 2009.

This comes directly from the organizers of the Flash Tap conference, so if you’re interested in participating next year, then contact them.

So, there, now you know!

Speaking of matters of “tap” … I just recently brewed a huge batch of Sedlmayr OktoberFest recipe (very similar to this).

It was supposed to be for Flash on Tap, but now I’ll have to redistribute it by other means. 4-5 cases of 22 oz’ers goes a long way.

Ignite Boston #4 (September 11, 2008, 6-10pm)

O’Reilly is hosting another fun, free Ignite Boston event scheduled in Boston on September 11, 2008!

The fourth Ignite Boston will be on Thursday, September 11, from 6 to 10pm at the Hooley House, one block from Faneuil Hall in Boston, MA. This is a larger venue, so the acoustics will be better than our last event and there will be room to sit, stand and mingle.

From 6:00-6:45 pm, mingle and talk tech with your fellow FOOs (Friends of O’Reilly), alpha geeks, and techies from the greater Boston area. After the mingling and social stuff, we’ll have a couple of special keynote presentations to kick off our Ignite talks. Then, on to guest speakers who’ll catch you up on the cool, new, innovative stuff going on in technology today. Don’t blink or you’ll miss their lightning-fast, five-minute presentations. During intermissions, get a cold beer and chat with speakers, sponsors, and O’Reilly’s own editors. Join us Thursday, September 11th, for a fun, energetic evening of talking, learning, collaborating and drinking!

Check out the events and activities of our previous Ignite events. RSVP if you plan to attend by emailing IgniteBoston at oreilly dot com. This will also enter you in a contest to win $300 worth of O’Reilly books of your choosing. You must be present to win. There will likely be other items like tee-shirts and other promo items for those who alert us ahead that they plan to attend.

Ignite is a user-generated event. If you’re interested in speaking, then submit a proposal for consideration.

Presentations must:

Be no longer than 5 minutes

Be on an innovative topic (no sales pitches, please!)
Be viewable on a PC [a MacBook Pro with Powerpoint and Keynote, and PDF] with standard AV equipment
Did we mention, no Sales Pitches.

BFPUG meeting tonight: Building Red5 Apps with Chris Allen

The Boston Flash Platform User Group is meeting and the topic is Red5.

Here are the details:

“This month, Chris Allen will present on Building Red5 Applications.

For those of you who don’t know what Red5 is, check http://osflash.org/red5

He’ll also be covering the Jedai Framework and new tools released with that. I’ve gotten personal demos of these things, and it’s pretty amazing how easy it makes it to set up Red5 and build a fully functioning app from scratch. If you’ve ever thought about doing any kind of live streaming / multi-user / conferencing apps, but thought it was too hard, definitely come check this out!

Take your Flash and Flex applications to the next level. Add streaming video, live interactivity and push technology to your projects, all using the acclaimed open source Red5 Flash server. Project leader Chris Allen will walk attendees though building a Red5 application using the new Jedai Framework (http://jedai.googlecode.com). They will learn how to harness the power of RTMP in Flash to build cutting edge content including multi-user games, live video chat and more.

Back from 601 Townsend (Adobe, San Francisco office)

Last week, I was in San Francisco for some planned activities at Adobe.

Although I can’t go into specific details on the going’s on there, it was great to speak with the mobile team, as well as some other community members who attended the events.

Next month, I will be heading out to San Jose for another community based Adobe event. I hope to see many of you there as well!

All in all, there are lots of exciting happenings within the world of Flash Mobile these days … and the year is still young.

Adobe Community Summit 2008 - a go

Events are lining up for this year …

Just confirmed that I will be at this year’s Adobe Community 2008 summit. Details are not finalized, however those that are privvy (UGM’s and ACE’s) know approximately when, where, and what the event details are.

I’ll post more about it as it shapes up and I am allowed to discuss (on a very high level).

I will be at CTIA Wireless 2008 this year

Just a short FYI, but I will be attending this year’s CTIA Wireless 2008 conference, April 1-3 2008, out in Las Vegas.

Looks to be over 1,200 exhibitors, and over 40,000 professionals from over 125 countries … all talking about wireless!
